Can we please stop the “playing politics” charge
This is a plea from one humble blogger: Can we all please stop accusing each other of playing politics?
This just in: elected officials are politicians! By definition they “play” politics. With a slim majority on either side, and important elections coming up, pretending that politics aren’t involved is absurd and unhelpful.
What is downright laughable is the liberal bloggers seeking to use Twitter to force Kevin DeWin and the GOP to take action:
Basically, instead of my random sarcastic replies, we want to get as many people as possible to tweet Kevin DeWine and the Ohio Republican Party’s account and let them know that your sick and tired of their partisan games.
It’s pretty obvious that they are just holding things up to make Governor Strickland look bad, otherwise they would have presented another viable option by now.
Anthony recommends the following standard twitter message, but feel free to write your own. Just be sure to direct it at @kevindewine and/or @ohiogop as well as keeping the hashtag “#passthebudget“.
RT this message and send to your Twitter list!! Tell @KevinDewine & @ohiogop to DO SOMETHING and #passthebudget NOW!
Let’s get Ohio going again instead of trying to score political points.
Once you stop giggling, a couple of things stand out:
- Kevin DeWine is unlikely to care what a bunch of liberal bloggers tweet him about the budget.
- How powerful is the Senate GOP? They can single-handedly hold up the budget to hurt Strickland politically. Governor Strickland and the Democrat leadership in the Ohio House are powerless to stop them.
- It is quite rich for the the sites promoting this campaign to accuse the GOP of trying to score political points instead of passing the budget.
No one on the left is trying to score political points, right? Strickland’s insistence on not raising taxes is pure principle and has nothing to do with politics. His equal insistence that the Senate signs off on his new stance on gambling is based on legal reasoning alone and involves not iota of politics. None of the lefty bloggers tweeting this are attempting to score points. On and on it goes …
The irony is that only the most partisan of hacks would fail to see that his accusation of politics and partisanship is in fact politics and partisanship.
So let’s stop accusing everyone of playing politics, shall we? Instead, let’s stick to arguments that the policies we propose and advocate are both best for our party and best for the state and the country.
Politics is what happens there are disagreements in a democracy. Get over it.
