Tom Ganley to run for Senate

Or so says this Stephen Koff, Washington Bureau Chief for the Plain Dealer, writing at the Open blog:

Tom Ganley is attending fish fry and chicken dinners, has hired a campaign manager — Jeff Longstreth, who coordinated Mike Huckabee’s presidential campaign in the Midwest — and will kick off his campaign for U.S. Senate on July 1, he says.

The Northeast Ohio auto dealer would appear to face long odds in a Republican primary against political veteran Rob Portman, who’s already being assisted by Sen. George Voinovich in the race to succeed none other than Voinovich. Ganley faded from view in the last couple months as the auto industry tanked, while Portman continued working the GOP grassroots.

The question on everybody’s mind: how much money is he willing to spend on this race?
